Before going and picking up that Albino Burmese Python/Bearded Dragon/Rainbow Boa Constrictor/Salamander/Etc. that you have been dreaming of owning half your life, do a bit of research first.
Think about:
Lifespan (are you willing to care for your pet for 25 years?)
Average size (do you really want a pet that is going to weigh over 100lbs. and is 14 feet?)
Eating habits (are you able to supply your pet with meal worms/chopped fresh fruit and vegetables/mice/bunnies/chickens?)
Growth rate (are you prepared to purchase a larger enclosure for your pet as they grow?)
Temperament (they need frequent handling to maintain a good temperament, especially those that are not naturally as docile)
Habitat (is it large enough for the size of your pet?)
...

No.

How do people catch Salmonella?
Salmonella live in the intestinal tracts of humans and other animals, including birds. Salmonella are usually transmitted to humans by eating foods contaminated with animal feces. Contaminated foods usually look and smell normal. Contaminated foods are often of animal origin, such as beef, poultry, milk, or eggs, but all foods, including vegetables may become contaminated. Many raw foods of animal origin are frequently contaminated, but fortunately, thorough cooking kills Salmonella. Food may also become contaminated by the unwashed hands of an infected food handler, who forgot to wash his or her hands with soap after using the bathroom

No animal products = lower risk of food poisonin

Virtually all pathogens found in food come from animals.
Cross-contamination is an issue, but the food poisoning risk of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains is MUCH lower than the risk of any animal product.
Campylobacter is a bacterial pathogen that causes fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. It is the most commonly identified bacterial cause of diarrheal illness in the world. These bacteria live in the intestines of healthy birds , and most raw poultry meat has Campylobacter on it. Eating undercooked chicken, or other food that has been contaminated with juices dripping from raw chicken is the most frequent source of this infection
